International students encounter many challenges as they move from home to study in a new environment. Discover how the International Academic Preparation Program (IAPP) pathway can facilitate a smoother transition to overseas education.
Transitioning from high school to university can be daunting, especially for international students navigating different lifestyles, cultures, and educational styles. This shift involves moving from adolescence to adulthood and adapting to an entirely new academic environment. When studying abroad for the first time, students face unique challenges, such as adjusting to a new culture, making friends, and managing their responsibilities, all while striving to maintain academic progress. These difficulties can accumulate, making it harder to find balance during their initial university years.
By helping to build a solid knowledge foundation and develop essential academic skills before university, OEGI's International Academic Preparation Program (IAPP) aims to equip international students better for the challenges ahead.
The IAPP pathway is designed to build a solid knowledge foundation and develop essential academic skills before students enter university. It equips international students with the tools necessary to face future challenges confidently.
University education focuses on preparing students for the workforce, often requiring specialised knowledge that differs significantly from national high school curricula. The IAPP pathway features practical study modules that cover subjects like Digital Marketing, E-Commerce, and Human Resources Management. In fact, some modules within the IAPP are closely aligned with university-level courses and are officially recognised for potential credit exemptions at Australian institutions.
After four months in the IAPP pathway, students will complete four subjects, gaining valuable knowledge and skills. This preparation reduces the feeling of being overwhelmed and enhances their efficiency in university studies.
Gain independence through active support
In many high schools, students' academic progression is closely monitored by teachers. This support can lead to a sense of uncertainty when students transition to university, where they face greater independence and responsibility. While universities offer ample support, the onus is on the individual learner to plan their studies and manage their time effectively.
The IAPP program encourages students to take control of their education. They learn to organise their notes, conduct independent research, and write academic papers, all while receiving guidance from experienced educators. Essential skills such as academic writing and time management are integrated into the IAPP curriculum, preparing students for the demands of university life.
